🥊 Faiga ‘Django‘ Opelu 💪
16-6-2
Heavyweight | Brisbane, Australia
Faiga “Django” Opelu doesn’t just fight, he shows up, no matter the odds. Born in Samoa and raised in Brisbane, Django’s introduction to boxing came at 19 through the influence of his late grandfather, a man whose encouragement and belief still fuels him every time he steps into the ring.
He began training at Fight Right Gym in Brisbane and never looked back. By the time he turned professional at 23 he was ready, and proved it with a first-round knockout win over Eddy Ward in his 2017 debut. In the years since, Django has earned a reputation as one of the most rugged and unshakable fighters in the Australian heavyweight division.
A former Australian Heavyweight Champion and WBL World Titleholder, Django made his name the hard way, stepping up again and again, once even fighting nine times in a single year. He’s known for taking last-minute bouts and pushing through setbacks with no excuses. After eight months out of the ring, he jumped straight into sparring with world champion Jai Opetaia, with no warm-up, no hesitation.
“There’s no challenge that’s too big. I’ll take any fight that comes my way.”
That mindset has seen him share the ring with some of the toughest names in the game, such as Joseph Parker, Kris Terzievski, Hemi Ahio, Patrick Thunder, and Joseph Goodall. Whether winning or losing, Django always brings a fight neither his fans or opponents will forget.
Outside of boxing, Django embodies the working-class spirit that resonates with everyday Australians. He’s been dubbed “Australia’s toughest tradie”, a blue-collar warrior whose grit, humility, and work ethic reflect the same values he carries into every bout. No ego, no flash, just heart, discipline, and a willingness to go wherever the fight is.
Django’s style is relentless. His story is real. And his presence in the heavyweight division is a reminder that there’s still a place in this sport for warriors who let their actions do the talking.
