Welcome Home, Champ! Conor Wallace Returns to Fortitude Boxing
There really is no place like home!
On Saturday, October 17, the Fortitude Boxing family came together to welcome home our very own Conor Wallace, "The People's Champ", following his incredible performance against Ben Whittaker in Birmingham earlier this month.
It was a fantastic afternoon at the gym, bringing together members, coaches, friends, family and supporters to celebrate Conor and everything he has achieved on the international stage.
Just two weeks earlier, Conor had stepped into the ring at Birmingham's Utilita Arena for the biggest fight of his professional career, taking on undefeated British superstar and Olympic silver medallist Ben Whittaker in an IBF Light Heavyweight World Title Final Eliminator.
While the judges ultimately awarded Whittaker the victory, anyone who watched the fight knows just how incredible Conor's performance was. After a challenging opening few rounds, Conor turned up the pressure and delivered a thrilling finish, rocking Whittaker with some enormous shots and giving the hometown favourite one of the toughest tests of his career.
Saturday's celebrations weren't just about what happened in Birmingham. They were about recognising the years of hard work, sacrifice and dedication that have brought Conor to this point, and the incredible community that has supported him along the way. From the countless early mornings and long training sessions to coaching our members and helping the next generation of boxers find their feet, Conor has become an enormous part of the Fortitude family.
The afternoon was an opportunity for everyone to come together, enjoy a BBQ, share a few drinks and catch up with Conor and the team after their time overseas. Most importantly, it was a chance to show our appreciation for a fighter who continues to represent Fortitude Boxing, Brisbane and Australia with tremendous heart and determination.
For a gym with more than 40 years of boxing history, moments like these are what Fortitude is all about. We're incredibly fortunate to have world-class athletes training alongside everyday members, sharing their knowledge, encouraging one another and creating a community that extends well beyond the boxing ring.
A massive thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate, and to all those who have supported Conor throughout his journey.
And of course, congratulations once again to Conor, his coach Greg Eadie and the entire team. We couldn't be prouder of what you've achieved, and we know there's still plenty more to come!
